These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33

Aloha folks I am back with another MTMTE review and it was probably to no one's surprise that it was Magenta Hot Rod of the 86 fame. I noticed so much people wanted this one, so I wanted to see what the big deal was especially most of us already owned the original release back in 2019-2020. What makes this one interesting? Let's get started.

Ok, I'll admit that the box art looks nice. I really like the portrait of him catching the fish. You get a description at least that he is fishing before the attack to illustrate part of the reason for this re-release.

I won't dwell too much on the figure individually since I did it a few years ago with SS86. For the most part, they play the same. The only difference is cosmetics. Which color you like better, or perhaps, the accessories that are given differently to both versions?  I do like the Magenta look on Hot Rod which is supposed to be movie screen accurate colors. At the time of the shoot I realized I misplaced one of SS86 Hot Rods laser/after burner effects so I was only able to use one for this shoot to give you the idea on the parts they came with.

So a quick recap SS 86 comes with a detailed Matrix, 2 weapon (burn) effects, Matrix spark, 2 guns (painted red handles), and a Saw (more darker grey on the handle).

MTMTE Hot Rod comes with a blue Matrix, 2 guns (Magenta painted handles), Saw (more light grey handle), Shield & light saber, and a fishing rod.

So it depends on your fancy in what you prefer. Of course Hasbro knew most of us were going to double dip on this figure so you got a whole bunch of goodies.

Based on the newer release, I did like the Shield and light saber. It was fun to use. The fishing rod is cool and all. It was nice to have it so you can recreate the fishing scene. The saw and guns were the same as the 86 release but sported different colors on the handles. The blue matrix I'm sure was placed here instead of the detailed looking one because it is supposed to mirror the scene where Hot Rod captures the Matrix from a dying Optimus Prime while the room lits in blue. They both can swap each other's weapons or mix it up since they are both the same mold.

There was almost no difference in joints and swivels. I liked 86 Hot Rod and Magenta Rod is pretty much the same though I felt my SS version was more on the tight side on certain parts of his hands where Magenta did felt less tight. Otherwise, no real qualms.

Probably one of the biggest change in coloring is here. Majority of fans didn't like how there was a yellow top by the canopy in SS86. MTMTE makes it consistent with the Magenta paint here. Then you have a unique way of storing all your weapons in the MTMTE version. You can exchange weapon placements once again between the two.

Conclusion

I'm torn in between on who is really better. I mean they both pretty much play the same and look identical besides the paint apps. If this was your first time picking him up, it is kinda of a bummer that it comes with different accessories that the first one had some differently. I really dig the light saber especially. But here is screen accurate Hot Rod. I hope we get a screen accurate Rodimus Prime in the near future. Anyhow take care and let God take the reigns.
