Hiking with God in Oahu: Pu'u Ma'eli'eli Pillbox trail 5/28/16

Aloha! Welcome to another beautiful day in Hawaii Nei. On this day,  I decided to hike up Ko'olau side due to rain out in town. I was originally supposed to do Lulumahu falls and the Pali Puka, but that was put on hold for another day because of uncooperative weather. Thank God for my friend because we went to Valley of the Temples side, and voila! Pretty weather! The party consisted of 5 people. Me, my brother, his wife, my friend, and his friend. Names will remain concealed for the time being. Though you pretty much know my name.

FYI, park by the streets where the Ko'olau Mcdonald's is. On the same side as Mcdonald's, cross the street, and walk alongside the railings going against traffic (as my friend said, this is probably the most dangerous part). Once you get towards the end of the railings, you will see a path like this (pic below)

Enter inside and your journey begins. Be careful as always. Lots of uphills and muddy terrains (it was still a little wet from the day before). We even met a beehive at one point so be prepared. Remember to wear good shoes; good ones with traction preferred. Once you reach about half way you should encounter some swings.

If my memory serves me correctly, you will hit one area that will diverge into two. We took the right side. I heard this path is a loop so it will probably lead you to the pillboxes eventually, but don't take my word for it.

When you see an elongated rope, you are really near the top. I didn't really need to use it since the ground felt solidified but did it anyway since I was here. Don't be afraid to use it if you need to.

You will reach the top when you hit the signage. You will stumble by two bunkers, though only the last one will give you panoramic views of the east side. You get nice views of the Kaneohe Marine base, the Kaneohe sandbar, and Chinaman's hat.

Thank you KG.

Thank you KG.
Thank you LH.

From the top bunker view. Thank you LH.

That was it. It was roughly a one hr/one half hr hike roundtrip. Just play it safe and for believers, never really hurt to ask God for protection and a good day. You really think it was a coincidence this all fell into place because we couldn't hike the Pali side?

Laters, we all had one final get together at Windward mall where we had lunch at the food court. Before we go, here are pics of some animals at the Ko'olau pet store.

Thank you for reading. Thank God once again for a beautiful hike day. See you next time!
