Transformers Studio Series The The Movie Wheeljack with Earthrise Wheeljack and Nonnef upgrades.

Aloha folks, I am back with another TF review. And this time it is none other than the 1-2 second cameo of Transformers movie fame: Wheeljack aka the Autobot inventor and scientist. How does he fare? Let's get started. 

Boxing

You have a quick illustration of Wheeljack with his elongated shoulder missile. Sadly, like Sunstreaker, you aren't given the goods. The figure comes with the same Earthrise mini-launcher but painted in a silver color scheme this time. You do get an extra gun so hooray! Equivalent to Sunny boy's re-release, this Wheeljack I do believe was also part of the 5 pack line. Though WJ got the gun and some how Sunny boy got jipped. The description on the back of the box flat out tells you that Wheeljack valiantly fought to the end. It's even his death photo simply, like I said, it's his 1-2 second cameo screenshot from the film.

SS WJ is pretty much a repaint of the Earthrise version. I do believe that ER is a dirty version of the toy deco. Or at least it's closer to that department. SS if toon accurate as you have already figured it out. What made the ER version not so great now is that he looks pre-yellowed comparing to SS86. It was all part of the battle damage gimmick during that time.

What puts this over the ER version is that he does have an extra weapon and sports a brighter white paint app. His gun has various areas where you can plug some other 5mm port weapons such as his mini-launcher making it look like a double gun. 

Besides the gun he is pretty much a straight up re-release sadly. They could had made his shoulder blades and his shoulder-launcher longer. Despite the awesome paint job and extra gun, this is pretty much a lazy re-release. Playability wise- they play identical. I won't go over it since I've already covered it in my Earthrise review.

With Nonnef upgrades

     

So they can swap weapons on each other. Thank you Nonnef for the upgrades. Check his website out. With his upgrades, you can finally have the longer blades and the shoulder cannon I was talking about.

I think this is one of the cases where I actually prefer the ER version. The SS version looks bland in comparison though the pre-yellowed paint on ER can be off putting. Same and pretty easy transformation.

Conclusion

If you like toon accuracy, then here is your Wheeljack. Is he complete? Nope. Like Sunny boy, you need upgrades to make the scientist feel finished. Sadly, he is a lazy re-release. I've been complaining of this all year and that's what Hasbro has been doing re-releasing figures, but mostly in better paint apps or in cartoon accuracy. He is a good figure for what he is but now it comes down to once again, toy accuracy versus toon accuracy. I think I do prefer SS overall just because I rather have everyone as close to the toon representation as possible. I rest my case. Jesus loves you. Buh-bye.
