Transformers Generations Red Alert Restrospective look! (2010)

It was inevitable that I ended up getting the other Sunstreaker/Sideswipe mold known as Red Alert. Originally released back in 2009 as an Henkei exclusive, Hasbro catered to fan demand for a western release. By the time then, The Classics Robots in Disguise and Universe line sailed away and thus came in the Generations line. Red Alert came just in time to become part of that line. What were the results? How did it fare with the Henkei version? Well, I can tell you the Hasbro one at least.

Boxing:

Okay thus far.

Alt mode:

Same mold though it gets a little extra points just having a rescue decal.

Robot Mode:

So you can pretty much see that he has the same accessories as his brothers.  Now let's talk about the Henkei version briefly so that I can give my two cents.

Henkei vs Generations quickie

I'm just going to post a link to make the judgements easier.

So my opinion is solely based on Henkei vs Hasbro entirely. As you can see Hasbro's version looks really dull. The greys and darker red really makes the character look bland. Generations gets the turbo engine that can turn your gun into something more stylish but it doesn't compensate for pale colors. Even the white is more dull then the bright finish Henkei had. I'm not sure why they had to change "Fire chief" into "Fire rescue." The latter sounds more ambiguous at best.  I definitely prefer the chrome gun with the red tip of Henkei over the dull grey colored gun. No contest there. As for his head, I understand that Hasbro went with his black head so that he resembled the g1 toy, but he looks a lot like Sideswipe. The red head of Henkei pretty much makes him a different character in the looks department. It also doesn't help that Hasbro came after Henkei, you figure that the later deploys would feature a better everything. Sadly, it felt like a downgrade the Hasbro fans waited for.

Overall, it sounds like I ripped on the Generations version tremendously, but in time I grew to like the toy. Also, when I got my hands on the Generations figure, the Henkei version was sky-rocketing high, price-wise. Generations Red Alert was roughly about $12 at that time. If you can look past the dull colors, then by all means, get Generations Red Alert. If you still can that is. I just wanted to get as much of the G1 characters before I retire from collecting. Somewhere this year or last, they released a Red Alert Masterpiece figure that is far more faithful to the G1 source. Henkei Red Alert's were spotted to go as low as $25 on ebay, so here is your chance to pick the deluxe sizes of him if you are interested in starting your G1 classics collection. Have a good day.
