Aloha folks, I am finally back with another TF review. It's Studio Series Shockwave; a retool of Siege Shockwave. Siege Shockwave will be featured as a comparison. Sadly, I was unable to locate Siege's accessories or how some of you put it, the surfboard of doom. But to take its place, I did utilize the Dramatic Capture series mini gun of him for him as a weapon. Without delay, lets get started.
Boxing

Here is your boxing. You get a different artwork on the sides now rather than several versions of Autobot city being burnt to the ground. You get a view from Cybertron. Pretty much the scene where Shockwave informs Megatron that Laserbeak has returned from his spy mission early on in the film. He comes with a mini version of his gun form which I will get more into later on.
Out of the box
This is Shockwave. Very versatile and lots of swivel including his arm canon nose. I will describe him more when I do the comparisons with Siege.
Spaceship mode
Technically, this is his official mode also based on Siege. Will get more into this later. Pretty easy to get into if you remember his Siege transformation btw.
Laser Gun mode
So all you do is flip his spaceship mode upside down and close his ears and place the hose where ever 5mm ports it can stretch to. You can also put his mini gun on the back of this mode, or any 5 mm port available.
But first: with Skywarp in 4 Queens Hotel, Las Vegas.
Logic says: hell with it. Let's just have fun!
With Siege Shockwave
Spaceship mode
Already you can see that 86 Shockwave had lots of his parts smooth out. Basically there is no designs like how Siege has. The biggest change here is the removal of the Cyclops eye gimmick Siege has. You can see it on the mast of the ship for Siege but its completely removed on 86. Below the hull (chest area), you can see the eye on the Siege version as well. Removed on 86. Besides color difference, it is nearly identical. You can move and plug the hose to where ever the hose stretches to. I like to keep it on the side of the mast for this mode.
Laser Gun mode
So same as above. Just flip both guys around and close the ears on the mast, and you have laser gun wave. Besides the art design of Siege and smoothness of the 86 version, biggest change here is you can place 86's mini gun version of him on the back of this mode whereas Siege you can't. They pretty much added a 5mm part section to this part for 86 so you can store his weapon. (4th and 5th pic in this category) However, it doesn't mean you can't place weapons overall on Siege but just wherever you can find a 5mm area. Use your imagination if you do.
Robot mode
Some differences
Thanks to the 5mm port on his back for the 86 version, you can put his hose on that area now. This is also where you store the gun as well. The knee caps on 86 is larger and you can see minor head sculpt differences on the top of their heads.
Another big change is that 86 loses lots of 5mm ports on his arm area. You can see it on the triceps and forearms on Siege, but 86 only has them on the under portion of the forearms. Siege at least allows you to place the hose to which ever 5mm port in that area it permits you to. You are only given one port on both arms for 86. There is a slight different design on the forearms on 86 as well. Siege is also using the DCS version of his mini gun. It's not the same gun. DCS has a better color scheme while the 86 uses a slimmer and longer design. For the most part, 86 plays the same as Siege. It's really up to you which design you like better. 86 feels more classic while Siege feels like its a modern version. Both are fun figures overall.
The gang for now
Yeah, Shocky is small. For a voyager this is quite disappointing. But he is still a fun figure to mess around with.
Conclusion
Yeah, if you don't own a Shockwave, I say get this one. He is smaller than others which is a bummer. It was expected since all they did was use a slightly re-tooled existing mold. But I did like how this classic Shockwave looked. I actually had fun with this guy again. And this is one of the examples where it was fun to utilize him as a gun which he was in the show at the time. Too bad Hastak couldn't do the same for Megatron. Anyhow, Jesus loves you. Until next time.
