Transformers Toys Studio Series Leader The The Movie 86-30 Springer (W/Siege Springer) Review

Aloha folks, I am back with finally another TF review: This time it is 86 Springer! I missed the boat on this guy and when I finally wanted him, lets just say I had to pay a little more to get him. Is he worth the upgrade or investment? Let's find out and let's get started!

Note: Featured along the review is Siege Springer. My dog chewed up his rotor and I lost one of his guns at the time of this review. So Siege weapons will be very limited in what they can do.

So the box came a little damaged. But the figure is what is worth my time. It was nice to see the backdrops again then stop doing in the future releases. 

Standing tall with Siege Springer

You got the missile gimmick and an array of weapons. You also get the two guns that came with Siege but it is more silver colored; the longer one of the two is the one that is missing for Siege Springer for this review as I've mentioned. I didn't realize at first Springer had flap like fingers, but I'm glad Hastak implemented that for this figure. You can really carry the missile more easier. The palm opens up what I am trying to say but the fingers are not individually articulated. Wish the missile was colored like the movie but still nice to have.

Yes, they gave Springer his forearm laser gimmick that was never seen again after that one scene.

    

So the biggest improvement is the torso on 86. On the siege one, his arms kept popping off and sometimes the chest would follow suit. Because 86 is leader class now, he is upscaled. So he is a head taller than Siege. What is another remarkable improvement is the shoulder tabs. It is now flexible. It was rigid and stationary on Siege rendering posing a little limited in comparison to 86. He comes with the same dual blaster like Siege as I mentioned though he has two new swords, one being the rotor for the alt mode (the Green sword). He comes with his hammer in which he uses it to fight Wreck-Gar in the planet of Junk. He also comes with a bigger blaster plus his missile as I mentioned earlier. Hastak made these small indents so you can store his missile and hammer. Leave no stone unturned. Both Siege and 86 can switch each other's weapons except for the green sword. It is specifically tailored for 86. You can really see the Siege rotor messed up thanks once again to my dog so it no longer looks uniformed. The figure does feature swivels although the fist, the left fist for mines, can be very tight to turn at times. I do love the light green on 86. Very reminiscent of his movie appearance.

Alt mode 1

Because 86 is a slight retool, the transformations are nearly identical. Which also means it kinda was a pain in the butt to get to this mode. Remember to push the crotch in. No joke. Once again you can see the rotor all messed up on Siege. Because the 5mm port is damaged on it, I can longer stick weapons on it as well; as part of the Siege gimmick I was trying to mention. Where the shoulder tabs is, 86 no longer has 5mm ports. I do like how Hastak figured out the weapon storage solutions on both figures. Once again, the green sword only fits 86. On the last pic in this category you could see how you could blend the weapons on Siege's rotor. Like I said, the 86 versions releases a carbon copy of these weapons but different colored. Last but not least, on 86, the green tabs on top of the roof can bend to the sides. I just forgot to do the shoot on it. 

Alt mode 2

Possibly the mode he is famous for. Same transformation, a little difficult had it not been for instructions. Let's face it, you going to love spinning that propeller over and over. All weapons can be stored on this mode as well. 

Conclusion

Yes, 86 is an improvement over Siege. The biggest drawback was he was nearly twice the price for anyone who already got Siege. Which is the reason why I didn't get him in the first place. He does come with more accessories and has better articulation thanks to the new fingers and shoulder tab mobility. He is very difficult to get these days without paying a little more. I saw someone sell their used copy on Ebay for almost a 100 bucks. I got mines for 77 with shipping but man you can only hope Hastak re-issues him someday. I will say he worth the upgrade for those who got Siege and really a awesome figure for those who still need a G1 representation of him. Anyhow, see you later. Jesus loves you.
