More Than Meets The Eye Perceptor, Ramhorm and Ratbat review. Comparisons with Studio Series 86 Perceptor. MTMTE Studio Series.

Aloha folks I finally got to opening up this guy. More Than Meets The Eye Perceptor. He comes packaged with RatBat and RamHorn. Unfortunately for this review I still have not brought out Frenzy and Rumble. I also did not have Legends Ramhorn for a comparison. Maybe somewhere down the line but I did have Studio Series 86 Perceptor, Blaster and Soundwave for this review. Without delay, let's get started!

Perceptor with Studio Series 86 Perceptor (Alt mode comparisons too)

So take your pick. Back in my review for 86 Perceptor (the 1st release), I didn't like how light his blues were. But if you watch the movie again ( my source: Youtube), his blues were actually that light. Except for the Optimus Prime death scene, it was the dark blue you see on the MTMTE version. He did, however, look more dark red in the film so I think MTMTE is more closer and screen accurate here.

The lens tip is colored white on the 86 and grey on MTMTE. In the movie, it is erroneously colored both at different times. The Prime death scene is actually the best way to view this. You can see it colored white when he is analyzing Primes wounds and then when he transforms, it turns dark when he announces Prime's fatal results. From what I hear MTMTE is more closer to the toons from which I had to pull up the episode Cosmic Rust on Youtube. Yes, MTMTE is more show accurate if anything. Now that we got that out of the way, what do I think in comparison?

I do like MTMTE better overall. I wasn't impressed by the light blues on the 86 though it is more movie accurate. The darker blue work wonders on the MTMTE version. Not to mention, the darker red is more outstanding. I do like the chest piece better. It seems to align more on the MTMTE version visually. As to no one's surprise anymore, MTMTE is given a new torso that which some fans disliked on the 86 since the waist area felt too small on that one. This new one feels evened out.

I do miss the transparent glass since he is supposed to be a microscope. It doesn't bug me too much however as it did with some fans. What I do like better on the 86 is the colored lens tip. Painting the tip entirely grey made it really dull. Especially the transparent lens that was on the 86 version is painted this color. I mean, they couldn't just paint the outside grey and left the lens transparent? What were they thinking here? Also, nothing changed on the scope canon. It still can't swivel on the new one, but you can raise and move it back and forward like 86. If I recall correctly, the Legends version years ago, can swivel, be taken off and used as a weapon.

Both can do waist swivel for some posing. There's also head swivel as usual. Speaking of heads, 86 is more darker in color while he has a lighter yellow on his forehead. MTMTE head is more grey and the yellow colored forehead sticks out more. They both have the same guns but MTMTE is a little darker red. The problem, if this is considered a problem, is that MTMTE's gun is a little on the tighter side. It doesn't peg in as smooth as 86's gun. Or at least for mines.

And last but not least, MTMTE fixes the back gap the 86 version had. Probably the biggest improvement on this newer release.

MTMTE Percy comes with Ramhorn's missiles and Ratbats rocket pack. Both can be used as weapons as you can see the pics above.

Ramhorm and Ratbat

So more cassettes. Pretty easy transformation back and forward. As you can see, Ratbat and Ramhorn are parts formers since parts of them need to be attached while in robot mode but detached in order to make cassette mode work. Ramhorn and Ratbat fit a little tight into Blaster but unlike Eject, he can open his tape compartment door smoothly. Ratbat fits very nicely into Soundwave but for an odd reason, Ramhorn gets stuck in my Soundwave. Door opens smooth but something with Blasters boys not wanting anything to do with Soundwave I guess.

Tank mode

This was the nice to have mode, at least for 86. Because of MTMTE Percy's new torso, his legs do not peg in at all for this mode. So it's considered no longer functional by many fans, but hey, he can pull it off like about 90 percent of it. I took two pics below that allows you to see why it no longer works on MTMTE. Once again, his bigger torso prevents this mode from fully stabilizing and working properly.

You can see that blue tab not going in for the 1st pic but you see the tab locking in for the 2nd. Not a total loss to be honest, but it does suck that this mode is loose now on the MTMTE. And because of this, supposedly, 86 SS has the advantage when it comes to alt mode.

Conclusion:

Totally a must get if you still need a screen accurate Perceptor. I felt many people avoided the SS86 version when he first came out. Not only that but he comes with Ratbat and Ramhorn which propels the buyer more of a reason in obtaining the Autobot scientist for completion purposes. I like MTMTE better overall but 86 isn't too bad either if he is all you can get. It is a small shame that MTMTE can't lock on for tank mode but it's really not a big deal on the long run. Well, laters folks and Jesus loves you.
