Transformers Toys Studio Series Core The The Movie Steeljaw
After a long wait, today I finally opened up Core class Studio Series 86 SteelJaw. How does he fare? Let's get started!
Boxing

Wow. So I was upset at 86 Blasters backdrop being the scene where Ultra Magnus rallies the troops. SteelJaw has the communication tower backdrop that Blaster should have had as well! Man, way to go Hasbro. What were you thinking?
SteelJaw
Here is SteelJaw in the flesh. I could probably say it was around here where the cassettes started to not look like cassettes. This was released back in 2024 but I held off opening SJ until now. SJ transforms to cassette mode to robot mode and back fairly easy. His head needs to be pegged together so as a result there is no toggling with his mouth. It stays open. You can rotate his hip guns to give him some style since the guns can get camouflaged easily with all that yellow despite the fact its more bronze looking.
And then there is his detachable back. I think this is the idea that paved way for the butt missiles you found on Ravage. This back attachment gives him his wings and mini turrets. And if you thought that wasn't enough, he comes with a 2nd attachment which is the speaker accessory. The only drawback is you can only have one attachment at a time. So you are forced to remove his wing attachment if you want SJ to carry this on his back. You win some and lose some. But thanks to his extra supplies, SJ is actually pretty fun to play with. It definitely gives him a replay advantage over Eject who comes nearly barebones with Blaster.
The negatives
I seen some third party rendition of this guy and sometimes the unofficial products do look better. Initially, I had some issues on how generic he looked and how his head just felt like he is popping out of a box. I know he looks something like this in the show but this still bugged me nonetheless at first glance. But the real negative gripe I have on this guy is how he fits into the tape compartment into Soundwave or Blaster. He can't fit into Soundwave all the way and he tightly fits into Blaster. Even worse then Eject imo. He's better living outside of either guys. Eject fits in Soundwave fine btw. And guess what? Soundwave's minions fit into Blaster nicely and the tape door ejects out smoothly when you push his buttons. That's engineering done right this time around.
For Fun:
Like I said , SJ is pretty fun to play with. I made these alternate looking modes which makes him look like some kind of pre-mature Insecticon. You can put his attachments on Blaster and Eject just for your amusement. Blaster really takes advantage of the speaker accessory. Remember to use your imagination.
Conclusion:
I will admit I had reservations on SJ at first, but after fiddling with him, he is actually worth the purchase imo. It really helps that he comes with accessories that can be used on Blaster and other purposes you may have for 5mm posing. It's a shame Eject wasn't given any type of weapon in both his Kingdom or 86 release. SJ is here to complete your cassette collection. I know he wasn't much of a popular character and he feels like a binary component to Blaster. So if you are lacking either, it feels like there is no point in picking up just one of them. But that is just my take. Thank you reading and I hope you folks have good day and Jesus loves you once again.
