Toy Review: Transformers Takara Tomy Legends LG55 Slugslinger and Caliburst Targetmaster.

Hiya folks, I'm back with another Legends edition of Takara Tomy Transformers LG55 Slugslinger and Caliburst; 2nd of the 5 transformers my sister bought for me from Tokyo. Without haste, let's get started!

Boxing and packaging

Destron and Decepticon merged into one?

Awesome Boxart and packing from Takara like usual. You have an mis-spelling error on his manual, his faction name is spelled "Desepticon." The comic included actually involves Spike being the bad guy; not sure why but he is. Slugslinger incapacitates some autobots including his buddies Misfire and Trigger happy. It is up to 3 of the girls to save them all. In doing so they are nearly rendered naked again (yup, a recurring theme in the legends comics). They save the day and here is the link for the synopsis:

Alt mode:

Neat double nosecone jet mode. I don't have much to say here honestly but this alt mode handles very nicely. Love the aqua translucent windows on this double cockpit area. However, the headmaster resides in the darker blue portion right in the center. I tried opening the aqua window cockpits but to no avail. Anyhow, this mode is sculpted nicely.

Wait, fan mode!

I guess like the previous review with LG Astrotrain, I just had to find a fan alt mode. Looks like a double headed chicken walker don't ya think? Reminds me a little of Sky-Lynx.

Headmaster

Can you see me?
Headmaster mode gimmick for the Titans return/Legends line as always. Fits in the middle of the plane mode. Once you seal the window shut, you can barely see the headmaster.

Caliburst (Targetmaster)

Here's Caliburst. Nice blue paint to match up with Slugslinger. His transformation was a little perplexing until I realized you need to break his back (folding) to have him transform to his targetmaster gun mode. His transformation is, indeed, different in comparison to the previous targetmasters. Like usual gimmicks, you can plug Caliburst into different peg areas. One being above the dark blue cockpit, both sides of the vehicles, and both pegs underneath his wings. Good luck improvising!

Robot mode w/Legends Astrotrain LG40

Well, I forgot to mention that I only got this figure because a whole lot of TF fans were getting him. I wanted to know what the commotion was about. Turns out he is an really awesome figure! Articulation is great on this guy, not a problem with posing for the most part. I'm not keen in the headmaster series but this was where he debuted. The LG version is a reflection of the Japanese Headmaster continuity and not that of the Rebirth USA version. Anyhow, I like how the Japanese version painted his mini turbines bronze/golden. The blue paint really blends in with him. He can trade weapons with LG Astrotrain and I'm pretty sure he can trade with other figures as well.
My only gripe was that my figure's left elbow did not swivel inwards whereas his right elbow was just fine. A good figure but perhaps just mines was a little defective but no real problemo.

*update* I played around with his left elbow, it can swivel inward now but not as smooth like the right elbow. Still better than nothing.

Conclusion:

I guess I'm going to complete season 4 (The Headmasters) before possibly retiring from this profession. Slugslinger is an awesome figure no doubt about it. Pick up the Hasbro if money is tight though the Hasbro version doesn't come with the actual targetmaster Caliburst. Legends version is the way to go if you prefer G1-anime accurate colors plus his targetmaster. Once again, Slugslinger is a neat and awesome Desepticon... err Destron err. Decepticon... oh whatever you faction you like call him figure. Once again, Jesus is awesome!
