Toy Review: Transformers Takara Tomy Legends LG40 Astrotrain triple changer!

Hello, hello, and hello! I've been busy with work and resting as much as I can, but I also wanted to take this opportunity to open up some of the figures my sister bought for me. In today is Legends Astrotrain, the triple-changer! Without delay, let's get started!

Boxing and contents

Legends Astrotrain LG40 comic sypnosis

Well, nice lookin artwork plus a funny comic till you reach the end part. I was chuckling for a bit to find poor Astrotrain maintaining a failing cargo transport company until he had a sinister plan towards the end. Anyhow, click on the link above to read the translation.

Warning: I made another blunder. I forgot that Astrotrain's robot mode had shoulder tabs so most of the shoot was missing the tabs.

Shuttle mode plus head master

Astrotrain's headmaster is a smaller version of himself basically. This is the default mode you get out of the box before you can transform him to his two other modes. The shuttle mode was ok. It was nice they painted the cockpit windows but to me this mode felt more like a space ship. There are some peg holes for you to just randomly place weapons. I have some example in the above pics. You can use mini-astrotrain to pretend as he is strafing his opponent. Not bad of a mode.

Shinkansen (Train mode)

Man, that's long! Well, this mode kinda pissed off lots of the TF community due to the fact this didn't look like his locomotive design he had in the series. Anyhow, I liked it. I was actually amazed by it. It took me a few mins to get to this mode (I try not to look at the instruction manual). Mini-Astrotrain firing off his weapon looks much more impressive here. Did I forget to mention that this bullet train mode is long! It is neat, not going to lie. I think this was a nice trade-off mode for the choo-choo train, not that I wouldn't mind having that mode as well. Anyway, this is very nice.

Legends Vs Henkei Astrotrain alt modes

Almost ten years later, you can see Astrotrain has pretty much evolved. One thing I liked was that both versions can switch weapons with each other. And it turned out pretty well. Just to be informative, Henkei Astrotrains gun is the grey one while the purple's belong to Legends Astrotrain. You can see that Henkei Astrotrain has more of the traditional shuttle and bullet train look while Legends is more like a combative space vehicle and armored train. I'll let you decided on which is better.

Fan mode

I did this for fun as I was inspired by some pics online. I love how Astro-trains wings can rotate to make it look like it was a gun turret. With the flaps up on the side, this looks like a city battle mode.

Wow, Legends AT is twice the size of the Henkei. I guess this was necessary since AT was supposed to be able to transport a whole bunch of Decepticons. Once again, both can utilize each others weapons though Henkei AT had trouble grasping Legend's bigger weapon. I'm definitely going to say that Legends AT is the definitive version in robot mode. If I was going to be negative, I just don't like how his heels look. Also, everytime I posed with his legs his crotch would always popped open. No lie, I'm not kidding. But overall, this version of AT is very impressive looking.

Which one was your favorite switch? Many possibilities with this option.

With the shoulder tabs (official way of transformation)

No tabs
I'll admit he looks cooler with the tabs but sadly his head mobility becomes limited by this feature. Without the tabs he can turn his head better. There is a shoulder swivel but even with that he can't swivel his head much. Anyhow, you pop the tabs up with that grey button in the center of his red abs.

Conclusion:

Never mind that he is a headmaster, this is the Astrotrain to get along with Legends Blitzwing and Octane to complete your triple changers. For the longest time, the Henkei version stood as your classics AT, but he can take a rest and let Legends do the job now! Expensive but worth it if you want a G1 anime colored AT. Ciao folks. Jesus is still awesome!
