More Hot Rod madness! Well, it ends here for now. This is the final Hot Rod review until I can get a Power of the Primes Rodimus Prime figure. Today in is Legends Hot Rod. I don't know what drove me to get this figure since I have so much Hot Rod/Rodimus figures but here is Legends Roddy nonetheless! Above pics is the usual box art and comic book that comes with it. I don't know much about the comic though it also takes place after Hot Rod left Cybertron in the Headmaster series.
Here is the link to the official synopsis.
Blunder warning: I transformed Firebolt's gun mode wrong as well Hot Rod's chest piece in robot mode for the entire review. Don't say you weren't warned.
Firebolt Targetmaster and Headmaster
| Sidearm from Fansproject |
Firebolt is awesome! I like his metallic coloring. Easily the best looking targetmaster imo that I got so far. FB also have some nice looking translucent parts as well. A nice combination I might add. And Hot Rod is also a Headmaster. Nothing to say on the latter much but nice to have and part of the Titans Return gimmick.
Alt Mode (guest starring Legends Kup)
Robot mode w/ Kup once again.
Hot Rod looks great but not Kup fantastic. Takara really did a number on Kup and he turned out great, almost perfect. Hot Rod didn't wow me much though he was easy to transform from alt mode to Robot and back. Hot Rod is in his G1 anime colors (minus the painted chest flame decal) though he has orange hands when it supposed to be white. I will explain more about my opinion on this figure in the comparison shots below.
A Bunch of Roddys and Fansproject Protector armor
I did try my best to see if Legends Roddy could fit into the winnebago of Fansproject but no dice. He is too wide to encase himself into the armor. Surprisingly he could instill Sidearm and Protector's weapon in Alt mode. For robot mode, he is definitely taller than his classics counterpart which is the right step for Hastak for all these years. However I do find Legends shoulders to be too tall and his wings (spoiler) to be too low in this mode. You can barely see it if you are staring from his front. His head though is a good improvement over the originals. His translucent flame chest bothered a whole lot of fans. To me, it's novelty but overall i didn't mind it one bit. I think it's a bit creative. The glaring problem though is that he has a huge gaping hole on both sides of his chest. It makes it feel as if something was meant to be there. Anyhow, I do like now that his mini-exhaust ports stick out on the side of both arms. It looks a lot better than the classics version. All done here.
Official way of transformations.
So I forgot to flip Hot Rod's upper chest piece back and Firebolt's legs were supposed to be rotated as you see in the 2nd pic in this category. Some blundering that I allowed to happen, indeed.
Conclusion: Legends Rodimus is a good figure and must have for Hot Rod enthusiasts. However, I still like the classics version so I'm torn between the two versions. For me it's a tie maybe until POTP Rodimus Prime comes out. This ends the Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime madness for now. Until then, Ciao!
