Takara Tomy Transformers Unite Warriors UW-07 Bruticus 1 of 2 review! Starscream's Brigade Exclusive Shuttle Blast-Off!

"Combaticons Transform! Brawl, Swindle, Blast-Off, Vortex, and Onslaught!" At long last, the Combaticons has arrived... Unite Warriors style that is. To continue on the G1 tradition, TakTomy has listened to fan demand and included shuttle Blast-Off rather than the Hasbro jet version of a darker Slingshot. If you are new to all this, Takara's combiners closely resemble their G1 cartoon counter parts. However, not everyone is welcoming to this change. Is this set worth a pickup? Without delay, let's get started in this 2 part series.

With Weapons attached.

Box looks good. The manual artwork consists of lots of G1 familiar faces such as Bot (though he is referred to as Bot II in this one since he was destroyed in the original G1 B.O.T episode). Lord Chumley and his butler, Dinsmoore is looking to buy some weapons from Swindle whom apparently is hocking Brawl's weapons including his turret.

The leader of Combaticons does not disappoint. His joints are tight and though he is a remold of Hot Spot, he is very fun to play with. In alt mode, he actually does not come equip with his cannons automatically. You need to apply it on him. No biggie. It's best you put it on him otherwise he really feels incomplete. The head to form Bruticus is on his back so have fun pushing him in vehicle mode with a head eerily on top of him. For his robot mode, I love his paint job and I'm glad Takara decided to leave some paint apps on his chest; His actual G1 look consisted of a plain blue chest. The extra paint apps on his chest just makes him look cooler on top of the nice looking blue color.  The cannons once again look nice on him. The cannon are silver painted which makes it shiny and good to look at. So far so good for Takara.

The figure that everyone had been waiting for. First off, you can count on Takara to come through for the fans to complete their collections G1 style. Groove turned out to be awesome for Unite Warriors Defensor though Hasbro eventually released him in the west about a year later. So what's the point of getting the Unite Warriors bundle? Getting back on track, It's Blast-Off and he's a shuttle! He gets points for being G1 complete. Figure-wise, he feels cheap. Ack! What you saying? In alt mode, he looks like a shuttle but he feels really light and he doesn't have that wow factor in comparison to Groove. His transformation is easy though and his tail is removable and not necessarily needed for his robot mode though if you look in a pic or two, I put it behind his back. The main complaint for most fans is that his dark color scheme is now reduced to a more caramel brown color. I'm not sure why Takara went this route, but it did bug me too though I got over it now. 2nd, he has a bulky chest. I understand that he had that chest in the cartoons but it just really looks big here.  Blast off has lots of holes, so you can peg loads of weapons on him. He even has arm cannons for hands, so this guy is ready for battle no matter what. For those who don't like his bulky chest, you can rotate his head and hands backwards for the more UW/CW look.

The Decepticon profiteer is almost perfect. 1st off, he is missing his cannon which I'm pretty sure that 3rd parties will rectify. Seriously, they gave the UW Constructicons their weapons but they couldn't give Swindle his cannon? Lastly, I'm not sure if I am transforming them right because I do my best to not look at the manual. After all, where is the fun in that? What I am getting here is that Swindle, or at least my Swindle, has trouble standing. He has ankle tilts which kinda allows me to stand him up decently. Swindle to me has always been the most popular Combaticon because he has a scheme to make money every time he is present. Not to mention, he was the only Combaticon not to be destroyed by Defensor. He then tried to sell his fellow comrade parts for money. His nature of course. His toy is done really well both alt mode and robot mode. My only gripe really was that he had trouble standing. Look for holes around him so you can peg as much weapons on him for maximum fun effect.

Vortex

Perhaps the biggest change in comparison to the Combiner Wars release. Once again, Vortex sports his G1 cartoon paint apps as opposed to the G1 toy colors CW has. Visually, I definitely love the UW version better. When I saw the CW version, I was really put off by how clownish it look despite the fact it is based off the G1 toy. I guess not everything translates well. Vortex, as most CW/UW owners should know by now that he is a remold of Alpha Bravo and Blades. However, the CW version had only 2 rotors. Takara decided to give Vortex the extra two rotors to compete the G1 look once again. Like UW blades, he looks like he is ready to fight even without weapons. The missiles on his forearms give him that warrior feel. However, like most figures, he is not safe from complaints. My Vortex always had one of his blades falling out every time I was trying to transform him. So I always did my best not to touch his rotors much though that is one of his defining traits people like about this figure.

The final Combaticon is more greenish. Sorry for the lighting. It makes him look more brown. Because this is my first exposure to this mold, I'm not sure if his stomach was meant to be, well, I don't know how to describe it, but loose and bouncy. It feels like you can't keep this guys torso intact. I heard most CW owners had this same issue. Other besides this issue, Brawl is a very simple figure. Very easy to transform and I feel he doesn't have as much articulation as opposed to his team mates. In tank mode, it's a little sad that he can't twist and turn his turret. I guess that is why he has all those holes so you can just overload him with weapons. And for fun, you can actually take out his turret and use it as a gun (last pic here in this category). I don't have much to say besides that awkward stomach of his. G1 wise- fans are divided when it comes to his forehead. In some episodes, the middle streak of his head is painted orange, while in some episodes, majority of his head is painted orange as you see here. Takara went with the latter. Overall, very simple figure indeed.

Final pics.
