Transformers Generations Skids IDW Thrilling 30 Review!

I missed Skids the first time around when he was released late 2013. The first run of Skids ended up suffering leg issues from those who did get him the first time around. The problem I've heard was that he had trouble bending his legs at the hips though this was easily fixable. How easy, I ain't sure but it would had been cumbersome to repair or fix a toy that came mis-assembled when you first opened the box.

Thank God that I ended up missing out on the first batch as he was re-released not too long ago. This time Hasbro fixed the leg bending issues. I had to get Skids, not due to Michael Bay's atrocious representation of him, but he was a G1 character in the G1 series overall. He only appeared in two episodes I remembered in season 2 though his design was different and he only spoke one line total during both appearances! The figure displayed here is based off of his IDW comic book design. Let's get started!

Box covers:

Like most of the Generation figures today, he comes with a comic book. For once, I wasn't that interested in reading this one though it features a lot of well-known TF characters- Skids, Rodimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Swerve, Rewind, Tailgate, Chromedome, Whirl, BrainStorm, Ratchet, First Aid, Drift, and even Cyclonus, who apparently is now a good guy? I guess. The short story is comprised of the autobots doing something of similar fashion of reality television. I got bored of the story cuz I'm not a big fan of the reality t.v. theme. Plus there was no action. Oh well.. moving on.

Vehicle mode:

Car was easy to transform. You can stick his guns on the side for novelty purposes. Plays and looks fine. No problemo here.

Robot mode:

*Believe it or not, this is the fun part! * Not really, well, first off, this guy is fully loaded. He has a 2 turret shoulder canon on top both shoulders, a pistol and rifle that can merge into one bigger rifle, smart bombs on his arms, and wrist guns on both of his wrists. Sadly, that is where the figure loses points. He is a walking arsenal no doubt but he has so much weapons including a large back which causes him to fall on his back all the time. This guy, believe it or not, has trouble posing. I managed to do a few with him but I share the same sentiment with other fans who got Skids and that he keeps falling on his butt! They could had gave him some flaps on his heel to allow him to stand properly, but sadly no such luck here. Still a nice looking figure.

For the most part, I decided to not shoot him with the toyhax backstage. I did at first but the backdrops kept reflecting the light that made him look even lighter. The pics above actually make him look darker than he really looks. If you do get his figure, he looks something like a darker turquoise blue. This is a minor issue but I thought I just pointed this out he is pretty tricky to shoot with. I'm not a professional when it comes to photography and lighting so I am still learning.

No flash used.

No flash and away from lighting as much as possible.

This shouldn't impact you on whether you want this figure or not. I'm just going to say that Skids is done nicely and feels almost about right when handling him. The only drawback is the amount of poses he can be limited to because he keeps falling backwards. I gave up on his posing when he kept doing this. He is a good figure to have as part of your classics collection and he goes roughly for $20 as I write this. Have a nice day folks.
