Collectors Coin
Boxing
Instruction Manual.
I bought LynxMaster from TFsource.com. I notice the TF figures that I buy are exclusives, they tend to come with a collector's coin plus outer boxing for the figure. For the comic, Sky Lynx and the crew are performing for Optimus Prime, Iron-Hide, Hot Spot, and what appears to be Blades. I could be wrong on the last guy. There are also some characters from the episode Carnage in C-Minor also dubbed the worst Transformers G1 episode in history.
Looking good. I really love how LynxMaster stands tall on the box artwork. You can see a silhouette of Sky Lynx dropping the rest of the crew from the sky.
A comic book was established for G1 continuity. You can read it here though it is in Japanese and it does not explain why Ratchet is still alive after he was killed in Transformers the Movie (1986). The comic also reveals Megatronia who is another Unite Warriors exclusive.
Sky Lynx
Sky Lynx is in a sense a triple changer. However, his walking Lynx form is mainly used for his combined mode which we will get to on the next review. So only his shuttle and walking/flying bird form is presented here and it works well. I know you can extend his neck which I didn't really do here because I thought it looked a little awkward. He pretty much has some of his gimmicks he had in the cartoons, like the back hatch (last pic above) where he held weapons in the episode Fight or Flee. He was pretty much the autobot transporter in season 3 so they allowed the user to put small figures that could fit into that blue compartment of his. Neato!
Hound
Vs Henkei Hound (mix and matching their weapons too)
Well, I still think Henkei Hound is the better representation of G1 Hound. However, the CW/UW is a pretty impressive update of Hound. I think the only real drawback of this version of Hound is that his green is too forest green like. They gave UW Sunstreaker back his mustard yellow like color, why didn't they give this Hound the lighter green. The cool thing is that they both can exchange weapons which is a definite plus if you own both figures. I had to tinker with Henkei Hound a bit in order to have him carry UW/CW's blaster but no big deal. The CW/UW version is more tight in the joints whereas my Henkei felt more loose. Anyways, the CW/UW will most likely stay as a limb for LynxMaster.
TrailBreaker
Vs Generations TrailCutter ( weapons and stuff)
UW Trailbreaker has his arm cannon! Goodie! UW TB has very tight joints but most of all looks amazing for an update G1 look of his. He is the 2nd figure in this combiner to also carry an axe, first being Hound that is. Since he is a deluxe, he looks smaller than he should be. He is also missing his forcefield generator from which his Generations counterpart carry. It's a toss up between the two. Once again UW is more G1 based though his generations IDW form is a nice, slick, and modern look for him. Both can pretty much occupy each other's weapons well though some tinkering is needed for the both of them. Now that is what I pretty much call fully loaded. UW Trailbreaker is a retool of CW Offroad whose mold eventually was used and slightly modified for First Aid, Iron-Hide, and Zombie Breakdown from Grand Galvatron. If I had to say something negative, I'm just not a big fan of the light blue paint Takara used for his windows. It feels cheap to me. Moving on.
Ratchet
Vs Universe Ratchet
First off, let me just get this off my chest: Those darn blue windows again! Okay, done. Ratchet is another modified re-tool of the Offroad mold and the 2nd time it is used for this combiner. Also, he is the exclusive figure for this Unite Warriors gestalt. No word on how he was brought back to life though there is a Japanese Manga that explains how Prowl and Wheeljack came back to life (well, sorta). I'm assuming Ratchet too was from another Cybertronian universe who decided to have this current earth's body host his programming.
Here is the explanation for Wheeljack and Prowl's revival in the Japanese G1 continuity:
UW Ratchet is a solid remake of the G1 character. I love the weapon they gave him. The two prong gun or repair gun as you may call it. The Henkei/Universe version was the best Ratchet we had for a while until he was made into the masterpiece line where he uncanny looks like his G1 counterpart. Let's face it the Universe version hasn't aged well. He looks blocky in some parts and his alt mode look like a zig zag puzzle at best. However, the UW version isn't perfect by all means. We still haven't got a real representation of his van mode he had in the cartoons unless we count the Masterpiece figure again. He is missing his dash window that the Universe version has which is cool. They both can't grapple each other's weapons though I kinda forced Universe Ratchet's weapon on the side of UW's thighs. Once again, I think it's user preference on whether you prefer more G1 esque figures or modern representation of the figure.
WheelJack
Vs Generations Wheeljack
This is the mold that LightSpeed is based off of. The UW Wheeljack mold is a modified remake of Breakdown. This Wheeljack also hosts baby blue tinted windows though he had it in the show, so I guess it makes sense. Both Generations and UW version can almost occupy each other's weapons though some adjustments are also needed. As for which one is better, my money still goes to Generations Wheeljack. Generations has the look for the most part, the shoulder gun, his wings, and overall design. UW is G1 cartoon accurate in some ways but is still missing his wings and shoulder gun. He feels the most incomplete of the entire line up here. Nevertheless, UW Wheeljack is a great figure. At least his head does feel proportionate to his body than Lightspeed of Technobot fame did. He can do some pretty mad poses for somebody that is a mad autobot scientist.
To be concluded
A decent line up. This is a good opportunity to have these guys as your classic figures if you missed the Henkei, Universe, or Generations boat. Part II will be up soon. Thanks for viewing. See you next time.
I didn't post everything though I almost did. Check out my photo host page for some extra pics not featured here in the review:
