Thank God for a good day in Maui 3/29/17 Day 3 Nakalele Blowhole and Sunset at Haleakala.

After a long day of hikes on day 2, we decided to set foot out of our hotel a little after 8AM. Since we missed the Nakalele Blowhole and a few spots in Lahaina side, our goal was to find these areas once and for all. But first, since I was a early morning bird, I walked around the beach taking photos of Maui Beach Hotel area.

Tamron zoom lens special again!

Hah, I ended up taking pictures of a couple of strangers backs. Forgive me, it was good practice. I was actually okay with the results. The night before I learned online how to take some decent pictures manipulating shutter speed with the zoom lens. Some I toggled with the ISO which gives the picture a bit more clarity but causes a bit of "noise" at the same time (zoom at the pic with the cargo boat).
I'm no pro but I was glad to utilize my zoom lenses much better than I did when I was at Wai'anapanapa beach.  Me and the husband/wife team set foot short after.

Return to Sam Sato's.

Yep, you didn't see that wrong. French Fries for breakfast! Must checkout place for first timers and locals alike. Go early though otherwise, there will be a wait for seat-in.

Nakalele Blowhole

Argh!!! In order for us to get here, we decided to take the backroad from Wailuku side to here. And guess what? More one-lane roads!!!! What is with Maui and their one lane roads! It took us some time to get here. This day, the blowhole was a little docile. It wasn't spewing water much due to low tide. Everytime I turned my back, it spouted water pretty ferociously. Figures. Fyi, you need to hike down here which is roughly about 10-15 mins. Just take your time. The blowhole will be to your left as you hike down, but if you go to your right instead, you will find the Heart Puka. Neato!

Return to Ka'anapali Beach, Black Rock, and Whaler's Village

Black Rock

Lanai

So we finally found Black Rock in Ka'anapali Beach. We saw a couple people jump off the rock into the water which was awesome. You can see Lanai from here if I didn't mentioned it the last time. Whaler's Village is very near here so you can pick up some grub, or in our case, dessert. A little pricey although we did get Kamaaina discount.  Whaler's is pretty much mini-outlet for the beach goers.

Leoda's Kitchen and Pie shop

Man, this place was seriously packed! I wasn't that hungry so I just ate a chicken pot pie. My sister-in-law had the hot dog, so the rest went to my brother. I probably recommend coming to this place before noon. We came a little after so that was that. After that we returned back to Kahului to rest a little.

Sunset at Haleakala

Grab em while you can!

The drive here from Kahului was nearly an 1hr and a half. The sun we checked didn't set till
6:39PM that day, so we came almost one hour early. If you haven't been here before then just be careful because after you pass the visitor's center, the roads do not have guard rails, so one false move will land you in the nightly news. Just take it nice and slow. In my previous post, I mentioned that the Haleakala receipt we purchased on our hike to the Pipiwai trail works here. Remember that it is good for three days. Also, most people and tourists prefer to do the sunrise here but you need to obtain a permit now in order to do so. Make sure you order the permit online in advance. We did this trip last minute so we had to do the sunset from which we aren't complaining. My sister in law loved this sunset experience the best of her entire Maui trip.

Free dessert.

Closed the night with Italian food. So it took us a little over an hour to get down from Haleakala. I wanted Italian, so we yelped this place and found this small town area not too far from Haleakala. What can I say? Food was awesome. Carb overload, but it was worth it! We also had free dessert thanks to our 3 day Haleakala receipt. My sister in a law had one of those yelp specials where if you present your receipt for going to Haleakala, you get free dessert. Thank Jesus for the goodies! Lastly, our waitress was from New York and pretty friendly. Definitely would come again.

Called it a night from here. Went back to the hotel and slept a good one. Last day coming up!
