Transformers Toys Studio Series 86-08 Deluxe Class The Transformers: The Movie 1986 Gnaw Action Figure Review. First post of 2022

As long as there are 99 of us or less, they can't mandate vaccines. (*Biden Logic*)

Happy New Year folks. Today we look at Gnaw of the 86 studio series fame. Without delay, let's get started!

Boxing

Here is the boxing. The backdrop is pretty much similar to that of 86 Grimlock and Slags since this was originally the Sharkticon's hometurf and where they fought the Dinobots.

The figure

Gnaw is a simple looking pudgy figure. He comes with a rifle and his tail which is used as a mace. He has no waist swivel though you can modify his ankles to do some degree of posing. Gnaw's joints are tight. His back (the upper jaw in transformation) comes detached and in order for it to stick on, you must not lose his fin. His fin assembly is the necessary component that keeps his back attached.  Without it, the back becomes nothing more than a surfboard. I don't know if this was a really good idea but like I said, try not to lose the fin.

Shark mode

This is probably what 86 Gnaw if famous for. This mode does look amazing though it kinda bugs me that a head is sticking out of his mouth. Supposedly, that is his tongue but it looks bizarre in some shots. The rifle attaches to the side of him and his tail swivels up or down depending on how you prefer its positioning. The drawback on this part is his upper jaw (the back) again, it's very loose in this mode and it can come off fairly easy as you play with his mouth.

With Takara Legends LG-44 Sharkticon

In comparison to Gnaw, the Takara Legends versions look like cuter anime versions of him. Despite the same motif, Sharkticon 86 has the accurate look plus the proper blue color placement of the tail and the arms. The tail doesn't swivel for the LG versions, and ironically, you can place Gnaw's rifle below the chin of the LG version. No joke. They can also grapple each other's weapons which is always a nice thing to have.

Bonus: Sharkticons invade Punalu'u beach (Island of Hawai'i)

Conclusion:

86 Gnaw (Sharkticon) is a welcome addition of the 86 line. I would had troop build with this fellow but I don't have much space since I have to make room for other figures. So the Takara versions will be his minions. The only real drawback from this guy is that his back (upper jaw) is pretty flimsy especially in Shark mode. Other besides that you have a simple figure that looks great and represents the 86 line fairly well. I hope you folks had a good Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year. See you soon.

Best of Transformers toy box covers (Action figure box covers)

I was cleaning my room and I stumbled across Kingdom Inferno's box and I was reminded of how we had some neat artwork on the toy covers. Here is a compiled list starting from the classics line till present day. This is my preference. If anyone wants to share their preferences, please lmk below. (This is a look on only the figures I've opened and reviewed thus far)

Generations Jetfire/Skyfire was most likely the first of the 3d artwork that got me into the boxart. Most of the Unite Warriors boxes were simply amazing. I really like how Defensor is running through the highway and Computron/Computicon's Nosecone drilling out of the ground.

Never really knew Slugslinger, but for an odd reason, this pose of his struck a cord with me. Always liked how Metroplex looked menacing for this pose. The Hasbro release actually has smaller class figures drawn on him. But still, he looks stunning here.

Siege had some pretty artwork. I really like the poses where they are running into battle. ER Trailbreaker looks astonishing here as well. For some reason, I really liked the Siege promotional artwork here.

Man, possibly the most astounding Legends artwork of all the LG figures.

I'm just blown away by Inferno's pose here. Pretty much the reason why I decided to do this post. Sideswipe has some pretty postures whenever he is depicted. lastly, I love the reflection on the Alternate Universe Optimus Prime.

That's it for now. Will probably update this post as soon as I find more boxwork I like. Toodles.
