At long last! 5 years out of his cage, Metroplex heeds the call of the last prime! I figured it was time to test the waters on this guy and man was I not disappointed.... at least not yet. Today I will take a look at robot modes for both Metroplex and Scamper. Part II will deal with alt modes and such while part III will deal with add on stickers and other things I missed in the first two parts. Without delay, let's get started!
*Warning: This is the Takara Generations release from 2013 and not the re-release of the Legends figure. Hence, there is no Manga (comic). Not to mention the voice clips in this release are English. I heard the re-release is now in Japanese. *
Boxing and contents
Man, that is one huge box to encase a huge figure! I will get to this part later on. It was actually a pain to remove Metroplex from his prison box because he is twist-tied and taped heavily into all these individual black brackets. It took me some time but he was freed at last. On the side of the box was his instruction manual plus stickers that are needed to give him some more detail. Its optional though. Anyhow, next category.
Metroplex
Eye on.
Visors on
Shaka!
Wow, the pics don't do this figure justice. Remember when I said he was huge! Really the pics don't do this figure any justice at all. My t.v. monitor as you can see is covered in the background with my work towel. My t.v. is a 32 inch flat-screen. Look how Metroplex towers over my t.v. and is almost in height with Unite Warriors Bruticus who in the background is standing on my SubWoofer. So he has a gimmick where you can either have eyes or visors for, well, his eyes. He comes out of the box with the eyes standard but if you pull his left antena down, his visor will pop down. You can flip it back up if you choose the eyes route. Not to mention his helmet can pop off. Sadly his visors, or at least my Metroplex, kept popping back on at times when I was doing random poses. So you will see pics with his eyes or visor. No biggie. I preferred his eyes but his visor mode is great as well. Yeah, he is bigger than Computron as you can see. I love Metroplex's chrome face and the white coloring they used on him is that of top notch quality.
Voice samples
The neat thing about this toy is that he has a voice chip(s) installed. All you need to do is unscrew his back (right below the 6 metal circles) and install two AA batteries. Once this is done, push the window looking button under his chin, yes under his chin, and you will hear transformation sounds/ battle sounds and loads of voice samples. When this happens, Metroplex's eyes and his circle chest will flash red until the voice sample or sound effect finishes. These are the voice samples I've heard so far:
"Metroplex heeds the call of the last Prime."
"Crush Decepticons."
"Decepticon deactivation commencing."
"Target synchronizing initiated."
"Target obliterated."
"These Decepticons scatter like cowards."
"Till all are one."
"Foolish Decepticons."
Scamper
Scamper appeared briefly in the series stationed within Metroplex. He tried to stop Swindle from stealing Metroplex's transformation cog but was unsuccessful. He comes in vehicle mode though he is easy to transform though its very difficult to swivel his head at times due to his head guard being too small for your big fingers to get a good grip on him. As you can see in some pics, Metroplex's left shoulder can become a shoulder canon. There is a small compartment for Scamper to sit and and place his hands on two knobs giving him the impression that he is in control of Metroplex's shoulder canon. Two figures for the price of one. I'm liking it so far.
Metroplex armed and ready
Unlike the western Generations release, Takara's version comes with an extra gun. He also has two blackish turbine guns that stick on the side of his biceps. Though he has some pegs around his forearms too so you can play around and see how you like to stick em. He has a crane that I'm not too familiar with though when I looked at the instruction manual, you are supposed to use it in alt mode. I managed to stick it into one of his ports in his right arm. He can use his red guns as a missile launcher though only one missile launcher is included when Takara should had added two since its two guns they have included in their release. This guy stands well too. There were times where I posed him awkwardly and he was still standing!!! Zoiks, this guy is 2 feet tall and the engineering they done for this guy is remarkable! Just look at his mid-kick pose I did for him. Most figures today can't even do that and Metroplex is bulky and tall and yet he makes it look so easy. I was really impressed by how well this figure was made. Joints are not loose at all though he is pretty noisy making that ratchet like noise when you start bending him and such.
Complaints: He has fingers rather than a pegged hand. Sadly he can't do a thumbs up pose! I mean, what were they thinking on this part? Yeah he can do a shaka decently and flip the bird (I didn't do this but yeah I can tell some people have tried this.) But how come he can't do a thumbs up? This was the first pose I tried and it disappointed me to see that his guy can't do a thumbs up. Well, I had to complain, huh? Part II coming up soon. Thanks for reading if you made it this far. Hope to see you folks again.
