Toy Review: Takara Tomy Transformers Legends Perceptor LG56

Aloha folks. Thanks to a demanding work schedule....... yeah, excuses, excuses. I bet you are ready for some pics and not so much in whether I care for this figure or not. Anyhow, let's get started!

Boxing and contents:

Here is the link to the explanation to the comic:

Nice box art from Takara like usual. The comic is a throwback to the episode "Face of Nijika." Nijika's body is so similar to that of Windblade. Ramhorms conversion to his new mode is explained as well as Perceptor's reason of becoming a headmaster.

Microscope mode (Alt mode)

Neat. We finally get his updated microscope mode. You can look through the lens though it's fairly blurry. You can use his magnifier to pretend as you can zooming or zooming out while examining your headmaster or whatever you are examining. You can examine other headmasters of course I was a little pressed for time so I didn't do it this time around but you get the drill. This is neat to have besides having your typical plane, car, or train etc....

Headmaster and Ramhorn

Takara' version has Percy's headmaster colored just like him while Ramhorn is no longer a cassette due to being damaged in battle (the manga explanation). He is now a gun and tank; a triple changer. Not bad. Ramhorn looks great here. This is a decent option if you are having trouble finding Ramhorn in the Titans return release. From what I heard, TR Ramhorn was released towards the end of the TR line which may explain why there was a short amount of distribution among retailers in finding the ol' Rhino.  If you don't have Perceptor and Ramhorn then this is a fairly good way in obtaining both. The price just sucks but that is Takara pricing for you. You get more paint apps plus shiny good parts on Ramhorn.

Robot mode w/Ramhorn:

Awkward heels.

How you like me now, Megatron?

This mode is pretty fun. I like how you have the option to remove his lens cannon. You can also shift his cannon while it's on his back (look at the 6th pic in this category, it looks like a shoulder cannon). Ramhorn becomes Percy's 3rd weapon here so Perceptor is really ready for battle. Like usual, find ports to peg his weapons but he doesn't have a whole lot, let's say, comparing to Astrotrain. His other weapon is a sniper rifle! Glad, they didn't forget to give him that since that seems to be his weapon of choice in the comics. You can fit a headmaster on the butt of his gun just fyi. How do I like this guy so far? Let's go to the next category.

Legends/Titans Return Perceptor Versus RTS Perceptor and his Igear upgrade gun.

For years, RTS Percy stood as the official Chug Perceptor. That feat now belongs to Legends/TR Perceptor. I complained in the past that RTS Perceptor had trouble standing. Well, he still does. I  have to have him lean on the backdrop for most of the shoot. I find Legends Perceptor's heels visually disturbing but at least it helps him stand. This is what RTS Percy needs... heels! Not to mention it doesn't help that he has that heavy backpack of his which also causes his arms to droop. Anyways, Legends Perceptor looks more like Perceptor of the G1 series. His joints stabilize better than RTS in every way. Thank you for your service RTS Perceptor. Legends/TR is the way to go folks if you need a Perceptor. They can swap and hold each other's weapons so that is a decent trade off.

Nice to find a spider-like mode I just so happened to come across. Enjoy!

Conclusion

Well, I have to admit that there isn't that much of a paint difference if you are comparing the Titans return version to the Legends release. If you want a cartoon accurate Percy, then Legends is the way to go. The only real difference I really see is that yellow mid-line color on his head.  It's better to go this route only if you want both Perceptor and Ramhorn without pulling your hair. Or if you want somebody to better represent Perceptor instead of the RTS version. Legends Perceptor is easily transformable to alt mode and robot mode vice versa. Super easy actually. Overall, a great figure. Enjoy folks.
