Toy Review: Transformers Takara Tomy LaserBeak (Condor) and Apeface LG38.

Happy New Year folks. Got out of my sick bed to review a figure. Today's focus is on one of Soundwave's minion: Laserbeak aka Condor in Japan and his partner in crime: Apeface. Without haste, let's get started!

Boxing and contents

Standard legends boxing. Comes with the comic book version from which I have no idea what's it about until I read this site:

Robot Mode

With Legs
With legs 2

Red wings 1
Red wings 2

Better view of his face
Laserbeak is a beauty. Though I wouldn't find him a masterpiece of his G1 incarnation. He looks great here. I had trouble getting a decent shot of his face until I was able to do so on the last pic for this category. For once I used mainly flash and the flash obscured his legs due to the black flooring I used. He also had some red wings which I didn't shoot too much of because his left wing kept receding in. His right was sturdy but the left side kept sliding back in that I kept his red wings in from most of the shooting. Also too bad he does not have his wing rifles like he did in the cartoon. Would had made this figure really ideal to obtain.

Cassette mode

Very easy to transform to. The designs aren't as cool as Legends Rewind but it is reminiscent of his G1 cassette look. The sides of him has two buttons on each side. It makes it feel as if LB was a cassette player. Anyhow, outdated mode by today's standards but G1 classic none-the-less.

Vehicle mode

I guess everybody's got an extra gimmick these days. By far the mode where it really doesn't matter if LB had it or not. You simply flip few of his pieces around and he becomes mini-construction like vehicle or Scorpion if you can see it that way. A novelty whatsoever.

Apeface with Legends Scourge

Cannon mode

I really like Apeface's face. My brother is a big fan of the robots that have faceplates. I bet he would like this guy as well. The usual switch a headmaster for another headmaster in this category. The cannon mode was replicated from comic for those who are wondering. Anyhow, love his purple. I think he would go great with Legends Octane.

Misc

I guess I should get Combiner wars buzzsaw to complete this gang. Laserbeak doesn't really sit well on Music Label Soundwave but after some tinkering, I got the job done. Definitely will not fit in his chest compartment.

Conclusion:

I got this figure with Legends Trypticon on whom I yet to open up and review. Like most legends figures, LB is very easy to play with. This is the first Legends figure where I would recommend picking this version up rather than the Titans Return because there are more decos on this one plus it does come with a Headmaster as an extra. I picked him up for $16 at TFSource.com and then a week later he was on sale for $13. No biggie. He is now sold out, but I wouldn't hesitate to pick him up if you need a LB. This version does feel more complete than the TR overall. Once again, LB is very easy to toy around with. Have a nice day folks.
